Abandoned by His Wife, but not by His Two Faithful Slaves

November 14, 2019

Even the serfs were capable of devotion which is rare in the present day. Is not the history of those two slaves whom Amis purchased a touching narrative? They did not recoil from the leprosy which was eating away their master. His wife actually turned him out of his castle, when his slaves took him in their arms, and constituted themselves his guardians and guides. We read of the three men crossing the whole extent of France, and arriving at the shrine of St. Giles, then at Rome. The slaves there interceded for their master whom Providence had struck down so terribly, and he could not help feeling better when he beheld such devotion.
