He Who Leads Obeys More Than He Who Is Led

Louis XIV, painted by Charles Le Brun

Louis XIV did not exactly take France to the finalities that he had in sight. [More precisely], there was a France that had certain finalities that he managed to understand. He also had them in sight and knew how to personify them, and because of this he did what he did.

They say that the newspapers form the public. It is even more true that the public forms the newspapers.

He who leads obeys more than he who is led.

The leader conquers not because he has caused the others to diminish, but because he has caused the others to grow.
