The Coronation of the beautiful 27-year-old Queen Elizabeth on June 2, 1953, was consequently to be a glittering affair, a day to remember and one to boost the morale of the entire population. Having been meticulously planned, taking more than a year to organise, the grand spectacle did not disappoint.

The ancient ceremony itself had remained largely unchanged for more than 900 years and it was one that the new monarch had watched when she was an 11-year-old girl and her father George VI had been crowned at the same venue: Westminster Abbey….
