A noble boy’s example on suffering without self-pity

The eldest son of La Villette was nine years old and was wounded in the battle of Messina. Seeing the flowing blood soil his clothing, all he said was: “What would my governess say if she were to see this!”

When he grew up, Philippe de Villette (1667) succeeded his father as Marquis De Mursay de Villette and died in the battle of Turin in 1706.
