Jesus Christ Did Not Teach a Chimerical Equality Nor Disrespect for Authority

February 17, 2011

[From the Apostolic Letter Notre charge apostolique of Pope Saint Pius X, August 25, 1910]:

Then, if Jesus was kind to those who went astray and to sinners, He did not respect their erroneous convictions, however sincere they might have appeared. He loved them all to instruct them, to convert them and to save them.

If He called to Himself, in order to comfort them, those who were in trouble and suffering, it was not to preach to them jealousy of a chimerical equality. If He lifted up the humble, it was not to inspire them with the sentiment of a dignity independent and rebellious against the duty of obedience.
