“I know of a lady called Doris who worked for the Queen until old age and a faltering memory meant that she had to retire and enter a care home,” relates a correspondent in the latest Country Life.
“Doris had clearly served Queen and country well, as, shortly after her retirement, the Queen and Prince Philip paid her a visit.”
As with all royal visits, this one was arranged with meticulous care, and members of Doris’s family were given good notice, which enabled them to buy her a new dress for the occasion.
