…a future King should acquaint himself with the governance of the nation. Think of the outcry if it emerged that he had ignored the affairs of state, in favour of pottering round his garden…. Also, secretaries of state tend not to be shrinking violets: should the Prince make suggestions with which they disagree, they are entirely at liberty to ignore them.
