On Wednesday, July 23, 2014, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands accompanied by the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mr. Mark Rutte, His Royal Highness Prince Laurent of Belgium, the Governor-General of Australia, Mr. Peter Cosgrove, the Australian Foreign Minister, Ms. Julie Bishop, various dignitaries as well as families and friends attended a solemn ceremony at Eindhoven Airbase to witness the arrival of planes from Ukraine carrying the remains of the victims of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17).

According to Hello Magazine:
Throughout the ceremony the royal couple held each other’s hands tight as the coffins were brought off the plane.
The majority of the passengers were Dutch and Wednesday was declared a national day of mourning for the Netherlands.
The king and queen have met family members of the deceased this past week, and last Friday the couple signed the book of condolences…
Britain’s Prince William last week gave a statement on the tragedy. “For all of us who have lost countrymen and women in the tragedy, words cannot do justice to our sense of loss,” William said.
