Royal vow is not a political promise

According to the Daily Express:

On her 21st birthday in 1947 the then Princess Elizabeth took to the airwaves…

“I can make my solemn act of dedication with a whole Empire listening.

“I should like to make that dedication now.

“I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.”

She ended by saying: “God help me to make good my vow, and God bless all of you who are willing to share in it.”
