According to the Washington Post:
A newly elected Australian senator clenched a fist held high at her swearing-in ceremony, as she slowly pledged: “I, sovereign Lidia Thorpe, do solemnly and sincerely affirm and declare that I will be faithful and I bear true allegiance to the colonizing Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”
The word “colonizing” is, of course, not part of the oath…
Thorpe’s revised pledge was interrupted by the president of the Senate, Sue Lines, who informed her that she was “required to recite the oath as printed on the card.”
